Dr. Andrew Wilson is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Queensland. A registered architect with professional practice experience in Victoria, Queensland, and Germany, he earned a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, a Master of Architecture (Research by Design) from RMIT University in 2001, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland in 2015 for his thesis "The houses of Hayes and Scott (1946-1984)". His academic career includes teaching in technology and science, history and theory, and leading architectural and urban design studios. Wilson is committed to advancing architectural culture through critical design learning and fostering international exchanges, particularly in the Asia Pacific region.
Wilson's research focuses on Research by Design, including collaborative projects, and architectural practice in post-war Queensland, exploring subtropical housing, urban and social spaces, and architecture's interplay with the city. He served as Chief Investigator on an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Grant project titled "Architectural Practice in Post-war Queensland (1945-1975): Building and Interpreting an Oral History Archive." Notable international appointments include JSPS Invitation Visiting Fellow at the University of Tsukuba, Japan in 2011, Visiting Foreign Research Fellow there in 2012 and 2013, and Invited Visiting Scholar at KU Leuven, Belgium in 2014. A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects and member of the European Association for Architectural Education, Wilson has authored numerous publications, including contributions to "Hot Modernism: Queensland Architecture 1945-1975" (2015), chapters in "Karl Langer: Modern Architect and Migrant in the Australian Tropics" (2022), and entries in "The Encyclopedia of Australian Architecture" (2012). He has curated exhibitions such as "Recollecting Home" (2018) and "Hot Modernism" at the State Library of Queensland, with his work featured at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2008). Wilson supervises postgraduate students on topics including tropical architecture and regional urban strategies.
