Dr. Annalee Coakley is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Calgary. She holds an MD and completed her family medicine residency at Queen’s University. After working in rural settings across Canada, she obtained a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 2009. She joined the Calgary Refugee Health Program and became its medical director in 2012. In this role, she has advocated for refugee health services, including responses to federal policy changes affecting coverage and support for incoming refugees such as those from Syria.
At the Cumming School of Medicine, Dr. Coakley serves as interim director of education and community engaged learning in the Indigenous, Local and Global Health Office. She is co-director of the Migrant and Humanitarian Health Collective and has contributed to community-engaged initiatives on vaccination and health access for newcomer populations. In 2024, she received the Jean-Pierre Despins Award from the College of Family Physicians of Canada for her advocacy in family medicine. She is also a recipient of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal.
