Dr. Anne Nolan, PhD, RN, FACN, is a retired nursing leader and educator formerly affiliated with Florida Gulf Coast University in the Marieb College of Health and Human Services. She served as Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and held the position of Director of the School of Nursing for many years, contributing significantly to the program's development, including the Doctor of Nursing Practice offerings. Dr. Nolan was the Elizabeth A. and Jack A. Connor Professor in Nursing, a prestigious endowed position she held until presenting it to her successor, Dr. Loureen Downes, in 2022. Throughout her tenure, she oversaw faculty and student initiatives, including support for nursing professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic, where FGCU nursing alumni and faculty served on the front lines.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to nursing education, Dr. Nolan received the Joan Glacken Faculty Award of Distinction in 2022 from the FGCU School of Nursing. Her scholarly work includes the co-authored publication "A pilot study of a nursing intervention protocol to minimize maternal-infant separation after Cesarean birth," published in the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing in 2009 alongside Carol Lawrence. She also co-authored the book "The Practising Nurse" with Lois M. Hazelton, published by W.B. Saunders Baillière Tindall in Sydney. These works reflect her focus on clinical nursing practices and maternal health interventions. Upon retirement, she was celebrated as a longtime director instrumental in advancing health science education through nursing at Florida Gulf Coast University.
