About Anthony

Associate Professor Anthony Dracopoulos serves as Chair of Discipline in Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. He earned a Bachelor of Economics (BEc) from Macquarie University, a Master of Arts (MA) from the University of Sydney, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Flinders University. Dracopoulos teaches Greek Literature, Language, and Comparative Literature, contributing to the education of students in these areas. His research interests focus on 19th and 20th century poetry and culture, literary theory, and translation studies, often examining the works of key figures such as C.P. Cavafy through lenses of irony, ambiguity, polysemy, and phenomenology.

In his career at the University of Sydney, Dracopoulos has held leadership positions, including supervising research-based degrees on topics such as bilingualism and social-emotional development. He has played a prominent role in departmental events, presenting awards at ceremonies for outstanding students in Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies and participating in celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Modern Greek studies at the university.
