Anthony Richards is a Higher Degree by Research Candidate and Lecturer in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering and Information Technology at Adelaide University. Based at the Mawson Lakes Campus through UniSA STEM, he earned his Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with Honours from the University of South Australia. His PhD research employs Computational Fluid Dynamics to investigate and elucidate the processes of dispersion and evaporation of virulent droplets within confined spaces. This work explores fluid dynamics phenomena relevant to airborne particle behavior in enclosed environments.
Prior to his academic pursuits at the doctoral level, Anthony Richards worked as a mechanical designer in the automotive and mining industries. In this capacity, he designed electric vehicle conversions for light vehicles intended for use in underground mining operations, applying mechanical engineering principles to enhance sustainability and functionality in demanding industrial settings. As a part-time teaching lecturer and casual employee, Richards contributes to engineering education by instructing in key undergraduate courses. He delivers lectures in Thermodynamics (ENGMX303) on Fridays at Mawson Lakes Campus (Building F, F1-24) and Adelaide City Campus East (Barr Smith South, 3029), covering sessions from late February through June. Additionally, he facilitates practical sessions in Engineering Design and Prototyping (ENGI1001), including workshops at Mawson Lakes (Building M, M1-15B), and Mechanical Engineering Practice and Design Project (ENGM2002) at both Mawson Lakes and Adelaide City Campus East locations, such as Engineering South SG10. These teaching responsibilities emphasize hands-on prototyping, design projects, and practical mechanical engineering skills for students.
