Dr. Aparna Datey serves as Lecturer in Educator Development and Recognition within the QUT Academy of Learning and Teaching at Queensland University of Technology, a position she has held since July 2024. Previously, she worked as a sessional academic at QUT, the University of Queensland, and Griffith University starting from July 2016. Possessing over two decades of experience, she has taught design studios, history, and research methods courses in architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture at QUT. Her international experience includes student advising at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) in the USA and academic development in Australian higher education institutions. Datey's impressive academic credentials comprise a PhD in architectural design pedagogy and practice from the University of Queensland, a Master of Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, USA, and a Bachelor's degree from CEPT University in India. She is recognized as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Datey's research centers on teaching practices, academic identity, and the professional development of sessional academics, with a particular emphasis on architecture curriculum and pedagogy. Her scholarly contributions include the PhD thesis titled "Casual Tutors/Adjunct Faculty in Architectural Design Studios: Professional Development Perspectives" (2022, University of Queensland), "Decolonising the design curriculum: making sustainability accessible, understandable and practicable to second-year undergraduate architecture students" (Archnet-IJAR, 2023), "Design teaching practices of practitioner architects: An observational study" (Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice, 2025), "Teaching traditional building knowledge online at a contemporary university: learning from traditional knowledge holders" (Advances in Scholarship and Research in Higher Education, 2025), "Levels of holistic academic development and leadership" (International Journal for Academic Development, 2026), and co-authored "Collaboration in Architectural Design Studio Pedagogy: Educators' Perspectives and Practices" (2025).
