About Axel

Professor Axel Timpe serves as Chair of Landscape Architecture and Deputy Head of the Institute at the Faculty of Architecture of Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen. He studied landscape architecture at Leibniz University Hanover, earning his graduate engineer degree in 2003 after completing an Erasmus program in spatial and urban planning at Université Francois Rabelais de Tours in France. From 2003 to 2010 he worked as a landscape architect at lohrberg stadtlandschaftsarchitektur in Stuttgart, where he later became an associate in 2011. In 2010 he joined RWTH Aachen University as a research and teaching associate at the Institute of Landscape Architecture. He received his doctoral degree from the Faculty of Architecture at RWTH Aachen University in 2017.

Professor Timpe’s academic interests center on landscape architecture with emphasis on urban open spaces, climate adaptation and productive urban landscapes. He has contributed to research projects including CoProGrün, recognized in 2019 as an exemplary climate protection project. His career includes visiting lectureships at the University of Stuttgart from 2005 to 2009 and participation in international programs such as the Erasmus IP CITYGREENING. Among his honors are the Borchers badge from RWTH Aachen University in 2017, commendations at the German Urbanism Award in 2016, and several project prizes for landscape designs including the Marktredwitz Garden Show. He was nominated for the RWTH Aachen teaching award in 2013 and maintains active involvement in teaching and professional practice in landscape architecture.
