Associate Professor Barbora Jedlickova is a specialist in competition law at the TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland. She earned her PhD in International Competition Law and Policy and an LL.M. (with Commendation) in the same field from the University of Glasgow, along with a Master’s degree in Law and Legal Studies from Masaryk University. Before entering academia, she practiced as a lawyer in the Czech Republic and served as a contracts specialist at the Universities of St Andrews and Glasgow. In 2009, she undertook a traineeship at DG Competition, European Commission in Brussels. Joining the TC Beirne School of Law in 2011 as an Associate Lecturer, she has since advanced to Associate Professor. Her academic engagements include visiting scholar positions at the University of Iowa, Boston University, the US Department of Justice, and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Jedlickova’s research focuses on competition-law theory, the digital economy, and comparative competition law, addressing cartels, vertical restraints, bargaining power, market power, sustainability, AI, and markets such as grocery retail, pharmaceuticals, and digital platforms. Notable publications include her monograph Resale price maintenance and vertical territorial restrictions: theory and practice in EU competition law and US antitrust law (Edward Elgar, 2016), ‘Beyond the economic approach: why pluralism is important in competition law’ (University of Queensland Law Journal, 2018), ‘Exclusionary conduct in competition law: a consequence-sensitive deontological account’ (with Jonathan Crowe, 2020), and ‘Competition law assessments on digital ecosystems’ (with Yo Sop Choi, European Business Organization Law Review, 2026). In 2025, she received the UQ Law School Research Impact and Engagement Award. She established and presides over the Australia and New Zealand chapter of the International League of Competition Law, affiliated with UQ’s Centre for Public, International and Comparative Law. Additionally, she serves on the Competition and Consumer Committee of the Law Council of Australia and has contributed editorial roles to Competition Policy International and LAWASIA Journal. Her scholarship informs law reform via submissions to inquiries like those of the Senate Economics Legislation Committee and Competition Taskforce Division.
