Betti C. Kreye is a clinical professor and professor of practice in the School of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, at Virginia Tech. She serves as the Program Leader for the Secondary Mathematics Education Program, collaborating closely with the Department of Mathematics to support teacher preparation initiatives, including the M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and doctoral programs in mathematics education. Kreye is designated as a faculty expert in Mathematics Education and Curriculum and Instruction. She earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in mathematics education, from Virginia Tech in 2010. Her dissertation, "Evaluating the externship experience for Virginia Tech mathematics specialists," was advised by Jay Wilkins.
Prior to her academic career at Virginia Tech, Kreye held positions in K-12 education, including K-12 Mathematics Supervisor for Montgomery County Public Schools, where she focused on staff development through partnerships with Virginia Tech, and mathematics teacher teaching calculus and algebra at Christiansburg High School, where she spoke at the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. In 2020, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors promoted her to clinical professor. Kreye co-authored the chapter "Students Who Speak English as a Second Language: Preparing Teachers for Changing Demographics—An Innovative and Collaborative Approach" with Griselda Tilley-Lubbs in the book Multicultural Curriculum Transformation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (Lexington Books, 2018, pp. 67-90). She has served on dissertation committees and is a board member of the Virginia Mathematics and Science Coalition. Kreye teaches courses such as EDCI 5764 Externship in Education, contributing to the practical training of future educators.
