Great Professor!
Associate Professor Bing Yu is a molecular geneticist and clinical scientist at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health, Central Clinical School, with a strong commitment to translational research in precision medicine. He holds an MD and a PhD, obtained from the University of Sydney between 1994 and 1998. Since January 1997, he has served as Associate Professor in the Discipline of Genetic Medicine at the University of Sydney and as Principal Scientist and Head of Molecular Genetics in the Department of Medical Genomics at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. In this role, he is actively involved in DNA testing services through NSW Health Pathology, advancing clinical applications of genomics.
His academic interests center on genetic medicine, pharmacogenomics, somatic mutations in cancers, targeted therapies, and next-generation sequencing. Key research contributions include studies on molecular patterns in salivary duct carcinoma identifying prognostic subgroups (2021), PD-L1 expression in papillary thyroid cancer and its implications for anti-PD-L1 therapy (2021), pharmacogenomics as a precision tool in routine prescription to enhance drug efficacy and safety (2020), the targetable genomic landscape of salivary duct carcinoma (2019), and analysis of clinically relevant somatic mutations in high-risk head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma using high-throughput targeted sequencing (2017). Earlier influential work encompasses ACTN3 genotype association with human elite athletic performance (2003) and genetics of athletic performance (2010). Additional publications cover genomic alterations in non-small cell lung cancer, metastatic melanoma, TP53 mutations, and environmental insults as triggers for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. With 135 publications and over 4,000 citations, his research supports precision medicine applications including drug sensitivity assays and mutation profiling in FFPE samples.
