Biplab Datta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Management, Economics, & Policy within the School of Public Health at Augusta University, with a joint appointment in the Hull College of Business and the Graduate School. He is a population health scientist with a background in applied microeconomics and serves as an expert in quantitative methods. Datta earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Georgia State University in 2017, an M.A. in Economics from Simon Fraser University in 2010, and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Dhaka in 2009. Prior to joining Augusta University, he worked as a Prevention Effectiveness Fellow Economist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
His research focuses on the intersection of public health and economics, with interests in psychosocial factors, socioeconomic determinants of health, and non-communicable diseases. Datta has received several honors, including the Outstanding Faculty Award from the School of Public Health at Augusta University in 2025, recognition in the Georgia State Alumni Association 40 Under 40 in 2024, the E.D. (Jack) Dunn Fellowship and Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Fellowship from Georgia State University in 2016 and 2015 respectively, and the Quantitative Economics Award from Georgia State University in 2015. He has contributed to editorial review boards for BMC Public Health and PLOS Global Public Health and chairs committees such as the Applied Health Sciences PhD Exam Committee and the Healthy Georgia Report initiatives. Datta teaches courses including Health Management & Policy, Research Methods, and Methods in Health Outcomes Research.
