Dr. Blaise Leopold Tardy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Khalifa University, where he joined in January 2022. He graduated from EPFL in Switzerland in 2009. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Melbourne in Australia in 2015. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Tardy served as a research fellow at Aalto University in Finland from 2016 to 2022. His academic background encompasses bioengineering and chemical engineering disciplines.
Dr. Tardy’s expertise spans colloidal science, multi-phase systems including emulsions and foams, polymer science, bioengineering, and bio-based materials. This expertise has contributed to highly recognized publications featured in international press releases and published in leading journals in nano- and materials science. He has delivered more than 30 international conference talks, seminars, and lectures, fostering networks to address global bioeconomy challenges. His research interests include sustainable materials, bio-waste up- and downcycling, bioprocess engineering, bio-polymer sciences with a focus on proteins, polysaccharides, and polyphenols, multiphase systems, and colloids synthesis and assembly. Dr. Tardy strives to integrate fundamental and applied sciences to advance sustainable materials and processes, emphasizing optimized biomass production and management from sources such as food wastes and agricultural wastes. He is affiliated with the Center for Membranes and Advanced Water Technology and the Research and Innovation Center on CO2 and Hydrogen. His teaching includes courses such as Applied nanotechnology, Introduction to Biochemical Engineering, Soft matter, Polymer Science and Physics, Physical Chemistry, and Lignocellulosic Bioproducts.
