Bobbie Douglass is an Associate Professor of Music in Arts and Culture at Tarrant County College District Office's Northeast Campus. She commenced her career at the college as an adjunct instructor in 2005 and has established herself as a distinguished Choral Director. Douglass leads the Collegiate Chorale and Northeast Collegiate Chorale, mixed ensembles comprising sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses that perform diverse genres including classical, gospel, jazz, folk, and musical theater. To keep performances engaging, she varies arrangements such as separate women's or men's sections and rotating quartet features. Rehearsals occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:15 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., building skills for concerts like the semester performance at Shady Oaks Baptist Church and high-profile events. In 2014, her students were selected for the Texas Two-Year College All-State Choir, performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference. She also directed a successful summer Choir Camp that year, attended by 35 high school singers.
Prior to Tarrant County College, Douglass directed and conducted choirs for over 30 years in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. Her musical journey started in childhood playing piano for her church, solidifying her commitment to music by high school. After working as a paralegal, she transitioned to teaching, drawing on her experiences to connect with students. Her dynamic conducting involves bouncing hands for tempo, body leans for phrasing, arm shakes for volume, and repetitive drills with fresh techniques to maximize potential. Douglass emphasizes perseverance, talent development, and versatile skills applicable beyond music. Her contributions earned the 2014 Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Teaching for the Northeast Campus and the 2015 NISOD Excellence Award as Assistant Professor of Music. Through her choirs, she cultivates a supportive family-like environment, enhancing emotional expression, language proficiency, and appreciation for music, poetry, and texts.
