About Brett

Brett Simmonds is a Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Queensland, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from The University of Queensland and a Masters (Coursework) of Health Policy from the University of Sydney. As Program Director for Regulation in Pharmacy Education and Practice, he leads initiatives to integrate regulatory knowledge into pharmacy training. Simmonds coordinates and lectures in several undergraduate courses, including PHRM2300 Social Pharmacy and the Health System 2A, which examines the structure and function of the Australian health system and pharmacists' roles within it, and PHRM4031 The Business of Health, focusing on healthcare economics, management, and policy. He is available for supervision of higher degree by research students.

Brett Simmonds has held prominent leadership positions in pharmacy regulation. He served as Chair of the Pharmacy Board of Australia, overseeing national registration, standards, and professional conduct for pharmacists. He currently chairs the Scheduled Medicines Expert Committee at the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, providing expert advice on the regulation of scheduled medicines. Additionally, Simmonds co-chairs the Regulators Advisory Group of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, contributing to international standards and collaboration in pharmacy regulation. His expertise has been featured in public engagements, such as webinars on cultural safety in pharmacy education hosted by the Pharmacy Council of New South Wales and Queensland and a statement to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability regarding pharmacy regulation and support for practitioners working with vulnerable populations. Through these roles, Simmonds has shaped regulatory frameworks, education, and policy to promote safe and effective pharmacy practice.
