Dr Bronwen McNoe is a Senior Research Fellow and co-director of the Social and Behavioural Research Unit within the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Otago. She has over 30 years of experience as a public health researcher and holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc), Master of Public Health (MPH), and PhD completed in 2020 focused on the primary prevention of skin cancer in educational settings. Her career includes prior work in cancer epidemiology and occupational health before joining the Injury Prevention Research Unit. She also serves as Co-Lead Director and Director of Prevention for the Cancer Society Research Collaboration at the University of Otago.
McNoe's research specializations encompass public health, health promotion, reducing population exposure to ultraviolet radiation particularly among young people, and skin cancer control in Aotearoa New Zealand. She provides expert support to Cancer Society health promoters for evidence-based SunSmart initiatives and represents primary prevention on national skin cancer control committees, including the Melnet Executive Committee, the advisory group for Quality Statements to Guide Melanoma Diagnosis and Treatment in New Zealand, and the Skin Cancer Primary Prevention and Early Detection Strategy. She is a member of the Public Health Association and offers media expertise on prevention of skin cancer, UV protection in childhood and adolescence, and sunbed prevention.
