About C. Lindsay

C. Lindsay Anderson is Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. She holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and an M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph in 1994 and 1998, respectively, and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Western University in 2004. Anderson began her academic career as Assistant Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University from 2004 to 2006. At Cornell, she served as Senior Research Associate and Adjunct Assistant Professor from 2006 to 2012, Assistant Professor from 2012 to 2017, Associate Professor from 2017 to 2022, and Professor and Department Chair since 2023. She has held additional appointments including Interim Director of the Cornell Energy Systems Institute from 2020 to 2023, House Professor-Dean of William T. Keeton House since 2021, Kathy Dwyer Marble and Curt Marble Faculty Director for Energy at the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability from 2018 to 2021, and Senior Fellow at the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability.

Her research advances energy system decarbonization at the intersection of environmental and systems engineering, electric power systems, optimization, and decision science. Notable awards include the Energy Systems Integration Group Award of Excellence for Contributions to Energy Systems Optimization in 2021, IEEE Senior Member since 2019, Cornell College of Engineering Award for Research Excellence in 2016, NSF CAREER Award in 2015, Norman R. Scott Sesquicentennial Faculty Fellowship in Energy Systems Engineering in 2012, and Cecil Graham Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2004. Key publications comprise "Evaluating the intensity, duration and frequency of flexible energy resources needed in a zero-emission, hydropower reliant power system" (Doering et al., 2022, Oxford Open Energy), "An open source representation for the nys electric grid to support power grid and market transition studies" (Liu et al., 2022, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems), "A new wavelet denoising method for selecting decomposition levels and noise thresholds" (Srivastava et al., 2016, IEEE Access), and "Secure planning and operations of systems with stochastic sources, energy storage, and active demand" (Murillo-Sánchez et al., 2013, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid). She contributes to the New York Independent System Operator’s environmental advisory committee and co-led the Electric Energy Systems track at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences.
