About Carilyn

Carilyn Ellis, PsyD, MSCP, serves as Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at George Fox University, where she joined the Graduate School of Clinical Psychology in 2022 as Director of Clinical Training and now also as Director of the Doctor of Clinical Psychology Program. An alumna of the institution, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2005, Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University in 2011, Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University in 2014, and Postdoctoral Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2018. Her clinical training includes an APA-accredited internship at the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System from 2011 to 2015, with rotations in geropsychology, pain management, palliative care, and primary care; a postdoctoral fellowship at the Boise VA Medical Center; and practicum experiences at Portland VA Medical Center and Cedar Hills Hospital.

Prior to her faculty appointment, Ellis held key roles such as Psychologist at Autumn Leaf Therapeutic Services in Salem, Oregon since 2019, providing in-home and office-based services for chronic medical conditions, oncology, chronic pain, and mental health while supervising trainees and delivering community education; Integrated Primary Care Psychologist at Northwest Medical Homes from 2020 to 2022; Psychologist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain and Palliative Medicine at Salem Health from 2018 to 2019, where she developed the Pain University Series; and Primary Care Psychologist at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital from 2015 to 2018, creating the PainWise First Steps Program. At George Fox University, she teaches courses including Clinical Foundations I and II, Professional Issues, History and Systems of Psychology, Psychopharmacology, Practicum II and III, Pre-Internship, and Internship. Her research interests focus on integrated primary care and community health, including treatment outcomes in medication-assisted treatment versus taper protocols for high opiate use, psychological comorbidities, and persistent pain protocols. Key publications include 'Everyday Problems with Executive Dysfunction and Impulsivity in Adults Recovering from Methamphetamine Addiction' (2016) and 'Primary Care, Health-Behavior Groups' (2017).
