Dr. Chad McCuthchen earned his Ph.D. in History from Texas Christian University in 2016. His dissertation, entitled “Born of Pumas and Lions: Cultural Mestizaje in the Viceroyalty of Peru, 1532-1650,” supervised by Dr. Susan Ramírez, addresses cultural mestizaje during the early colonial era in Peru.
Chad McCuthchen is an Associate Professor of History at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he also serves as Latin American Studies Coordinator and Graduate Coordinator. He teaches courses including History 171: World Civilization, 1500-Present, which surveys global developments from the early modern period to contemporary times; History 190: U.S. to 1877, covering the founding and expansion of the United States; History 441: Colonial Latin America, exploring the Iberian conquest and colonial societies; and History 442: Modern Latin America, examining independence movements and twentieth-century developments. His research specializations include Latin America, race, ethnohistory, and the Atlantic World. Research interests focus on race and ethnicity, indigenous cultures, and colonialism in Latin America.
