About Chengzhi

Chengzhi Peng is a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, where he conducts research in the Division of Quantum Physics and Quantum Information. Born in October 1976, he earned his bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from USTC in 1998 and his Ph.D. from USTC in 2005. Peng has focused on quantum communication, addressing key challenges in quantum information sources, transmission channels, and detection systems. His work encompasses experiments in both optical fiber and free-space channels, advancing practical decoy-state quantum key distribution and entanglement-based quantum communication.

Peng has authored or co-authored numerous high-impact publications, including papers in Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Physics, PNAS, Physics Reports, and Physical Review Letters. Notable contributions include work on 100 km free-space quantum teleportation and entanglement distribution, recognized in Nature's Feature of the Year in 2012, and measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution, highlighted by the American Physical Society in 2013. He served as chief designer of the science application system and vice-chief designer of the satellite system for the Micius quantum experiment satellite, launched in 2016. Peng has received the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Prize, the China Youth Science and Technology Award, and contributed to the National Natural Science Award First Prize in 2015. His research has supported practical applications, such as quantum communication networks for the 60th anniversary of the National Day parade and Hefei metropolitan area demonstrations.
