About Chris

Professor Chris Langley is the Professor of Pharmacy Law and Practice at Aston University and currently serves as Deputy Dean (External) in the College of Health and Life Sciences. From 2016 to 2022, he was Head of Pharmacy. His career at Aston University spans over two decades, beginning as a Research Fellow in 2000-2001, followed by Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice (2001-2008), Senior Lecturer (2008-2011), Reader (2011-2012), and Professor since 2012. He has also held administrative roles such as Associate Dean for Taught Programmes, School of Life and Health Sciences (2012-2020), Deputy Head of Pharmacy (2011-2016), Fitness to Practise Officer (2010-2012), and Director of Postgraduate MSc Programmes in Pharmacy (2009-2011). Langley teaches on the MPharm and OSPAP programmes, covering medical and healthcare law and ethics, pharmacy law and ethics, and the practice of pharmacy. He obtained his BSc in Pharmacy from Aston University in 1996, PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Aston in 2000, Postgraduate Professional Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Aston in 2003, and Master of Laws (LLM) in the Legal Aspects of Medical Practice from Cardiff University in 2012.

Langley's academic interests center on pharmacy education and policy, and the role of pharmacists in primary and secondary care. His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). With over 106 outputs, key publications include "Integrating cardiovascular healthcare screening into a community pharmacy vaccination service: a scoping review to identify opportunities for patient engagement and service expansion" (2026, BMJ Open), "Experiences and opinions of multi-professional non-medical oncology prescribers on post-qualification training: a qualitative study" (2022, International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy), "Design and Evaluation of a New National Pharmacy Internship Program in Ireland" (2019, American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education), "Clinical pharmacists in general practice: An initial evaluation of activity in one English primary care organisation" (2018, International Journal of Pharmacy Practice), and "An Analysis of Returned Medicines in Primary Care" (2005). He co-authored the latest edition of Dale and Appelbe's Pharmacy and Medicines Law. Langley is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA, 2014), Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (FRPharmS, 2014), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB, 2015). He has shaped pharmacy regulation through roles including Team Leader of the General Pharmaceutical Council's Accreditation and Recognition Panel (2018-present), Chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Education Expert Advisory Panel (2015-2017), Member of the GPhC Fitness to Practise Committee (2014-2022), and Non-Executive Director of Health Exchange (2012-present).
