He holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. from Western Carolina University and a Ph.D. in Biology from Queen’s University, awarded in 2008. Following his doctorate, he completed postdoctoral fellowships at McMaster University and the University of Ottawa. In addition to his role as full Professor in the Department of Biology, Dr. LeMoine has served as Chair of the Department of Biology, Chair of the BU Animal Care Committee, and as a member of Senate, the Senate Research Committee, the Faculty of Science Tenure and Graduate Studies Committees, and the Senate Executive Committee. He was appointed Acting Dean of Science in January 2023 and became Dean of Science in June 2024.

Dr. LeMoine’s research focuses on comparative animal physiology, with particular emphasis on comparative metabolic physiology and the mechanisms and consequences of metabolic plasticity in animals. His integrative laboratory work examines responses at multiple levels of biological organization, from molecular and cellular processes such as gene and protein expression and enzyme activity to whole-organism outcomes including exercise capacity, oxygen consumption, and growth. Additional research explores the evolution of metabolic regulatory factors in vertebrate taxa using bioinformatics approaches, as well as topics including microplastics, mitochondria, plastivores, plastic biodegradation, fish physiology, and waxworms. He has secured research funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, and various internal Brandon University programs. Dr. LeMoine is recognized as a student-focused educator who has designed and taught courses across multiple faculties, supervised numerous students, and contributed to active learning and skills development initiatives.
