Dr. Chris Lim serves as a Lecturer in Biological and Biomedical Sciences with an education focus at Deakin University's School of Life and Environmental Sciences, part of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment. He completed his Bachelor of Science, majoring in biological science, at Deakin University, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy from the same institution. During his PhD, Lim conducted research on metal biology, with a particular emphasis on copper homeostasis. His work explored the interactions of proteins such as glutaredoxin and dynactin subunit p62 with the N-terminal regions of copper-ATPases ATP7A and ATP7B. These ATPases are key copper transporters defective in genetic disorders Menkes disease (ATP7A) and Wilson disease (ATP7B).
Lim has authored or co-authored several publications in metal biology and biology education. Key papers include "Copper-dependent interaction of glutaredoxin with the N termini of the copper-ATPases (ATP7A and ATP7B) defective in Menkes and Wilson diseases" (2006), "Copper-dependent Interaction of Dynactin Subunit p62 with the N Terminus of ATP7B but Not ATP7A" (2006), "A single PDZ domain protein interacts with the Menkes copper ATPase, ATP7A: A new protein implicated in copper homeostasis" (2005), "P2-416: Clioquinol mediates the cellular uptake of Alzheimer's disease amyloid-β peptide and copper" (2008), and "Copper signaling promotes proteostasis and animal development via allosteric activation of ubiquitin E2D conjugases" (2024, co-authored). His research outputs have received 178 citations. Additionally, he contributed to "PASSport to the Cloud – Results of a Peer-Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Online Pilot Program" (2016), addressing online peer-assisted learning in biology. Lim teaches units such as SLE115 Bioscience Skills and SLE357 Advanced Cell Biology. He serves as a graduate research contact at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and has been Lecturer since November 2010.
