Christabel Gonsalvez serves as Associate Dean, Student Engagement in the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University, where she has made significant contributions to IT education and student experience over more than two decades. Appointed as the first Associate Dean for Student Engagement, she oversees initiatives aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and industry integration for IT students. Gonsalvez has been actively involved in curriculum development and unit coordination, including roles as chief examiner for units such as FIT2001 Systems Development and FIT3134 IT-based Entrepreneurship, and director of studies for the Bachelor of Information Systems. Her work includes promoting work-integrated learning through programs like Industry Experience and Industry-Based Learning projects, fostering partnerships with ICT employers to align curricula with industry needs.
Gonsalvez's research interests center on computing education, student engagement, and experiential learning in STEM disciplines. She has co-authored numerous publications, including 'Pass Rates in Introductory Programming and in other STEM Disciplines' (2019), 'Contrasting CS Student and Academic Perspectives and Experiences of Student Engagement' (2018), 'The Impact of a STEM-based Entrepreneurship Program on the Entrepreneurial Intention of Secondary School Female Students' (2021), 'Implementing Studios for Experiential Learning' (2000), and 'Breakfast with ICT Employers: What Do They Want to See in Our Graduates?' (2015). She led the Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship (WISE) Program, exposing secondary school girls to computational thinking and entrepreneurship via micro:bit programming. In recognition of her efforts, Gonsalvez was part of the team awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Programs that Enhance Learning in 2017. She has served on the Undergraduate Programs Committee and contributed to international collaborations on integrating international students into computer science programs. Her publications have garnered 177 citations, influencing discussions on pass rates, studio-based teaching, and flexibility in IS curricula.
