Professor Christian Osadnik is Head of Department and Director of Research in the Department of Physiotherapy at Monash University, School of Primary and Allied Health Care, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. He serves as an Honorary Fellow with Monash Lung Sleep Allergy Immunology at Monash Health, Melbourne. As Founding Director of ResPIRE, a multidisciplinary laboratory that supports early-career clinician-researchers conducting clinically relevant respiratory research, Osadnik's expertise focuses on optimising health outcomes for adults with chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma through evidence-based, personalised respiratory medicine and rehabilitation. His research interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, particularly acute exacerbations, frailty, pulmonary rehabilitation, physical activity, exercise testing, and health services research. Osadnik coordinates the research curriculum across Monash University's Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) and Doctor of Physiotherapy courses and facilitates lectures on cardiorespiratory physiotherapy content.
Professor Osadnik has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and presented over 50 conference abstracts, accumulating over 3,000 total citations and an H-index of 28. As Chief Investigator, he has secured over $5.4 million in competitive funding from organizations including the Medical Research Future Fund, European Respiratory Society, Lung Foundation Australia, Rebecca L Cooper Medical Research Foundation, and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Key publications encompass 'Airway clearance techniques for people with acute exacerbation of COPD: a scoping review' (Poncin et al., 2025, European Respiratory Review), 'Lung Flare Care: Development of a web resource to improve recovery after COPD exacerbations: a mixed methods study' (Kavanagh et al., 2025, PLoS ONE), and 'An Automated Malnutrition Screening Tool Using Routinely Collected Data for Older Adults in Long-Term Care: Development and Internal Validation of AutoMal' (Foo et al., 2026, JAMDA). He has received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Health, Safety and Wellbeing (2024), Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Award for Health, Safety and Wellbeing (2024), and Monash University Jenny Keating Early Career Researcher Prize (2018). Osadnik holds editorial and committee roles, including Editor for the Cochrane Airways Group, member of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare National Asthma and Other Chronic Respiratory Conditions Monitoring Advisory Group, Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand Research Sub-Committee, and European Respiratory Society College of Experts.
