Christina Abdel Shaheed is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney and an NHMRC Principal Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy with First Class Honours, a PhD, a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies and a Master of Education. Her research evaluates the quality use of medicines and non-pharmacological interventions across conditions including pain, cancer and cardiovascular disease. She has led major reviews on the efficacy and safety of opioids and paracetamol for pain relief, with findings published in journals such as CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians in 2024 and the Medical Journal of Australia in 2021. Abdel Shaheed contributes to projects including the COMFORT trial on opioid stewardship for low back pain and the RESHAP-ED trial on physiotherapy pathways in emergency departments. She has received the University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence for Outstanding Teaching and Research and the Research Accelerator (SOAR) Prize. Her work appears in additional publications on topics such as glucocorticoid use for sciatica and reporting of harms in clinical trials.
