Dr. Christopher Hodgetts serves as Academic Chair (Chiropractic) and Lecturer in Clinical Chiropractic in the School of Allied Health, College of Health and Education at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. He completed a Master of Physiotherapy at Curtin University from 2012 to 2014, graduating as the top student and receiving the LifeCare Award for the Master of Physiotherapy graduate. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Shoulder Pain Epidemiology at Murdoch University, which he commenced in 2019. Hodgetts has held various roles at Murdoch University since at least 2018, including clinical supervision for chiropractic students and contributions to musculoskeletal health research initiatives.
Hodgetts specializes in musculoskeletal health research, with primary interests in shoulder pain epidemiology, prevalence across age groups and occupations, rotator cuff rehabilitation, low back pain in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis, and prevention of training injuries in chiropractic students through strength and conditioning programs. He has authored or co-authored 12 peer-reviewed publications, accumulating over 316 citations. Key publications include 'Shoulder pain prevalence by age and within occupational groups: a systematic review' (2021, Archives of Physiotherapy, cited 113 times), 'Epidemiology, common diagnoses, treatments and prognosis of shoulder pain: A narrative review' (2021, Journal of Osteopathic Medicine, cited 50 times), 'Testing the association between shoulder pain prevalence and occupational, physical activity, and mental health factors in two generations of Australian adults' (2023, Chiropractic & Manual Therapies), and 'Testing a strength and conditioning program to prevent common manipulative technique training injuries in chiropractic students: a study protocol for a randomised controlled trial' (2018, Chiropractic & Manual Therapies). His work informs clinical practices in chiropractic care. Hodgetts chairs the Murdoch Chiropractic Graduate Stakeholder group and was selected for the Chiropractic Academy of Research Leadership (CARL) III cohort in 2025, fostering research leadership in the field.
