Christopher Ryu is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton. He earned his B.S. degree in Computer Science from Inha University in Korea and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Houston in 1998. Prior to joining academia full-time, Dr. Ryu worked as a software engineer for EDS and Volts Group. In 1999, he joined the Department of Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton, advancing through the ranks to become Associate Professor and then full Professor. Currently, he also serves as the Program Coordinator for the M.S. in Software Engineering program and provides leadership in related graduate initiatives, including the Accelerated M.S. in Applied Computer Science and the Coding Boot Camp, where he acts as lead instructor.
Dr. Ryu's research interests and academic specializations include artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, computational finance, software design and architecture, and software engineering. He has published numerous research articles and received grants supporting his work in these areas. Notable contributions include co-authoring the paper 'Make your Data Work: Infusing CMMI Culture in Data Analysis for ABET Accreditation' and serving as a guest editor for a special issue on the integration of AI and database technologies. Dr. Ryu holds SEI Certificates in Managing Software Projects with Metrics and High Maturity with Statistics. Beyond academia, he brings extensive industry experience, having developed large-scale software systems and applications running on various platforms, including the cloud, and assisted local companies in building software to support their business processes and operations. As department chair, he oversees the Computer Science program, contributes to accreditation processes, and fosters student success in both undergraduate and graduate studies within the Computer Science discipline.
