Honeywill's research specializations encompass respiratory health, with a focus on upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) in children, environmental influences such as housing conditions, and intervention strategies. She co-authored the 2023 publication in Future Microbiology, 'Preventing upper respiratory tract infections with prophylactic nasal carrageenan: a feasibility study,' alongside Caroline Halley, Janice Kang, Nevil Pierse, Oliver Robertson, William Rawlinson, Sacha Stelzer-Braid, Robin Willink, and Julian Crane. This feasibility study examined URTI symptoms, rhinovirus levels, and compliance with daily nasal carrageenan spray. In 2022, she contributed to 'The cost of achieving healthy temperatures in children's bedrooms: household factors,' published in Building Research & Information, which analyzed heating interventions, costs, and behavioral factors in New Zealand households to promote healthy indoor temperatures for children. Additional key works include 'Viruses associated with acute respiratory infection in a pediatric primary care practice' (Journal of Medical Virology, 2019), identifying common viruses in affected children, and involvement in smoking cessation research such as 'Combination Rapid-Acting Nicotine Mouth Spray and Nicotine Patch Therapy in Smoking Cessation' (2014). Honeywill also serves as Study Coordinator for clinical trials at the University of Otago, Wellington.
