Dr. Cliff Haynes is a Clinical Associate Professor of Student Personnel in Higher Education in the College of Education at the University of Florida, where he has served in faculty roles since 2015. Initially appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor, he was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in 2021. He also holds positions as Associate Director of Graduate Studies and Program Coordinator for the online Student Personnel in Higher Education master's program since 2015 and Graduate Coordinator since 2019. Prior to his academic career, Haynes held housing positions at the University of Florida and Texas State University-San Marcos. He earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with a minor in Qualitative Research and Evaluation Methodology from the University of Florida, M.A.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Virginia Tech, and B.A. in Communication with a minor in Political Science from the University of Arkansas. Haynes teaches courses on historical and contemporary issues in student affairs administration and the use of qualitative research methods in higher education administration research, specializing in asynchronous online modalities that meet University of Florida standards for online course quality.
Haynes's scholarly interests encompass the residential student experience, student-faculty engagement outside the classroom, the graduate student experience, preparation for community college student affairs work, and the scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education. His research interests include community college, faculty development, higher education, leadership development, narrative inquiry, online and distance education, postsecondary education, professional development, and qualitative research. Key publications include Haynes and Zhang (2024), 'Scholarship on community college student affairs: A review of 10 years of published research between 2010-2019,' in Community College Journal of Research and Practice; Sriram et al. (2020), 'The influence of students' academic, social, and deeper life interactions on their psychological sense of community,' in Journal of College Student Development; and Haynes (2019), 'Can she post that on Facebook?' in Maybe I Should… Case Studies on Ethics for Student Affairs Professionals. He has received the Rosser Education Excellence Award from the University of Florida College of Education (2020), NASPA-FL Research Award (2019), and Outstanding Faculty Member Award from the Graduate Student Council (2019). Haynes has held leadership positions in NASPA, ACUHO-I, and NACURH.
