About Corey

Professor Corey Bradshaw is the Matthew Flinders Professor of Global Ecology in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University. He joined Flinders University in January 2017 as the Matthew Flinders Fellow in Global Ecology and serves as Director of the Global Ecology Laboratory. He is a lead Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures. Previously, he was a Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage, where he led its Modelling Node, and he is a founding member of Future Child Health. From 2008 to 2015 he held positions at the University of Adelaide, including the Sir Hubert Wilkins Chair of Climate Change from 2015 to 2016. From 2004 to 2008 he was Senior then Principal Research Fellow at Charles Darwin University, and from 1999 to 2004 he was an ARC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Tasmania.

His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Otago in 1999, an MSc from the University of Alberta in 1994, a BSc from Université de Montréal in 1992, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Conservation Medicine from Murdoch University in 2005. His research focuses on global-change ecology, including how human activity and climate fluctuations have altered ecosystems, with contributions in applied ecology, biodiversity conservation, theoretical ecology, extinction dynamics, human demography and health, species responses to climate change, disease ecology, and palaeo-ecological modelling. He has received numerous honours, including the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Research Leadership at Flinders University in 2023, finalist for Scientist of the Year in the South Australian Science Excellence and Innovation Awards in 2022, the Verco Medal from the Royal Society of South Australia in 2017, and an ARC Future Fellowship. He has held roles such as member of the Australian Research Council College of Experts from 2019 to 2023 and Chief Editor for Global Biodiversity Threats at Frontiers in Conservation Science from 2020 to 2021. He contributes to public engagement through media, lectures, and writing on topics related to his expertise.
