Dan Lee serves as Senior Project Officer in Professor Phil Morgan's team within the School of Education, College of Human and Social Futures at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He is associated with the Centre for Active Living and Learning, particularly the Families research theme. Dan Lee holds a Masters of Teaching (Primary). He joined the team shortly after graduation. Before this appointment, Dan Lee worked in a variety of roles in school and community settings that focused on the social-emotional wellbeing of young people. In his current roles, Dan Lee acts as Implementation Lead for the Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered (DDAE) program. He is also Senior Project Officer for the Healthy Dads Healthy Kids program and contributes to the Healthy Youngsters Healthy Dads program. These programs, led by Professor Philip Morgan's team at the University of Newcastle, focus on promoting physical activity, healthy behaviours, and positive father-child relationships to improve family health outcomes.
The Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered program, with Dan Lee as a key team member alongside Professor Philip Morgan, Dr Lee Ashton, Kirsten Smith, Associate Professor Narelle Eather, and Associate Professor Myles Young, has received national praise for its world-leading approach to smashing gender norms through active engagement between fathers and daughters. The DDAE team is a finalist for the Research Impact Award at the University of Newcastle Excellence Awards 2025. The program has secured more than 20 awards, including a commendation by the World Health Organization and dual winner status in the Outstanding Engagement for Research Impact category at the Engagement Australia 2025 Excellence Awards. Dan Lee works with industry partners to deliver these impactful initiatives.
