Abut earned a Master of Science in Management with a concentration in International Finance from MIT Sloan School of Management (1989-1991), where he received the Miriam Sherburne Merit Award for outstanding academic achievement. He holds a BA in Accounting (Contador Público Nacional) from Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina (1981-1985). Abut's 25-year Wall Street career spanned JPMorgan (1991-1996), Goldman Sachs (1996-2006), and Citigroup (2006-2016). At JPMorgan, he started as an Associate in Latin America Corporate Finance, handling mergers and acquisitions—including the privatization of Mexico's second-largest bank—debt financing such as the largest Eurobond for a Latin American issuer, and equity financings like IPOs for major Peruvian and Colombian banks. Promoted to Vice President in 1995, he shifted to Equity Research covering key regional banks. Joining Goldman Sachs as Vice President in Latin America Equity Research, he covered 15 banks and financials, advancing to Managing Director and Director of Latin America Equity Research in 2000, and Global Bank Strategist in 2003. At Citigroup, as Managing Director and Senior Latin American Financials Analyst, he led a team covering 30 institutions across Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina. From 1997 to 2015, he consistently ranked in top positions in prestigious investor polls including Institutional Investor, Greenwich, and Reuters. Retiring in 2016, Abut founded DATABANC LLC in 2017 as Founder and CEO, providing advisory services to financial sector clients. He serves as Independent Board Member for Banregio (Mexico) since 2018 and was on Credicorp’s (Peru) Investments Committee (2018-2019). Currently, he divides his time between consulting, teaching, and philanthropic endeavors.
