Great Professor!
Professor Daniel Oron is a Professor in the Discipline of Business Analytics at the University of Sydney Business School. He earned his BSc, MBA, and PhD in Operations Research from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Following the completion of his PhD, Oron joined the University of Sydney in late 2004, where he has built a distinguished career in operations research.
Oron's research specializes in combinatorial optimisation, with a primary focus on scheduling theory. His work addresses complex problems such as batch scheduling with machine setups and costs, scheduling under supporting precedence constraints, generalized due-dates, rate-modifying activities, and multi-agent scheduling with parallel batching. Notable publications include 'Scheduling controllable processing time jobs in a deteriorating environment' (Computers & Operations Research, 2008), 'On the tractability of hard scheduling problems with generalized due-dates with respect to the number of different due-dates' (Journal of Scheduling, 2022), 'Single-machine two-agent scheduling with a rate-modifying activity' (Journal of Scheduling, 2025), 'Single-machine and flow-shop scheduling with supporting tasks in a set of identical parallel machines' (Journal of Scheduling, 2025), and contributions to various operations research journals on topics like flow-shop batch scheduling and controllable processing times. He teaches undergraduate and honours-level courses, including QBUS2310 Management Science, QBUS2320 Business Analytics Capstone, and BUSS4312 Business Analytics Honours A. Oron presents research seminars, such as on the tractability of scheduling problems, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Industrial and Management Optimization.
