Danielle O'Brien is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Wellbeing Clinical Psychologist in the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team at Student Health Services, University of Otago. She joined the team in 2018 following her studies at the University of Otago, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (BA(Hons)), a Master of Arts (MA), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PGDipCIPs). Danielle is well-equipped to support students through the challenges of university life and holds a passion for evidence-based interventions that improve wellbeing. In addition to her role at Student Health, she serves as Clinical Psychology Advisor for the Department of Psychology and Student Health, University of Otago, offering clinical expertise and practical insights.
Danielle O'Brien has made contributions to psychological research conducted within the Department of Psychology at the University of Otago. She contributed to data collection for the study titled 'The accuracy and promise of personal breathalysers for research: Steps toward a cost-effective reliable measure of alcohol intoxication,' published in 2017 by Riordan et al. She also assisted with 'An intercept study to measure the extent to which New Zealand university students pre-game,' published in 2018 by Riordan et al. Further, she provided data collection support for 'How intoxicated are you? Investigating self and observer intoxication ratings in relation to BAC,' published in 2021. Danielle offered clinical and practical insights, along with Fraser Beck and Faye Gorman, for the master's thesis 'The effects of brief muscle relaxation and breathing techniques on state anxiety in undergraduate students,' completed in November 2024. She participated in the Hands-On at Otago Psychology Project in 2017, which hosted high school students for engagement with psychology research and activities. Additionally, Danielle O'Brien is listed as a member of the Queer Friendly Staff Network, supporting inclusive environments at the university.
