About David

Dr. David Huntsman is a Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of British Columbia. He holds the Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Professorship in Gynaecologic Oncology and serves as the Canada Research Chair in Molecular and Genomic Pathology. Dr. Huntsman earned his MD from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1988, completed a rotating internship at Dalhousie University, a pathology residency at the University of British Columbia in 1995, and a clinical oncology and cancer genetics fellowship at the University of Cambridge in 1999. He is certified as FRCPC and FCCMG. His appointments include Staff Pathologist at BC Cancer, Consulting Pathologist at Vancouver General Hospital, Director of OVCARE, Medical Director of the Centre for Translational and Applied Genomics at BC Cancer, and co-Director of the Genetic Pathology Evaluation Centre. Dr. Huntsman’s research centers on cancer genomics, molecular diagnostics, digital pathology, and the molecular characterization of ovarian cancer and other gynecological malignancies, with a focus on rare tumour subtypes and the development of predictive and prognostic biomarkers. He leads multidisciplinary teams applying genomic technologies to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Huntsman has received numerous honors, including the Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research and a UBC National Research Prize, and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science from Memorial University. He maintains an active role in collaborative research initiatives, including personalized medicine efforts in British Columbia.
