Dr. David Xuefeng Shao is an Associate Professor in Management at Newcastle Business School, University of Newcastle, Australia. He earned his PhD in Management and Master of Commerce (Extension) with Distinction from the University of New South Wales. Before joining Newcastle Business School in 2021, he served as Lecturer at the University of Sydney Business School from August 2019 to April 2021 and Research Fellow at University of Technology Sydney Business School from January to October 2019. At the University of Newcastle, he progressed from Senior Lecturer to Associate Professor effective April 2024 and has been Program Director of the Master of Business Administration (Global) since September 2023. His teaching portfolio includes courses such as International Business Strategy, International Business Risk, Globalisation and Business, Corporate Social Responsibility in Globalisation, and Globalisation.
Shao's research interests focus on digitalization of firms in emerging economies, supply chain management under Industry 4.0, and renewable energy for carbon neutrality. He has published extensively in top-tier journals including European Journal of Operational Research, Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Energy Economics, Technological Forecasting & Social Change, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Safety Science, Journal of International Management, Journal of Environmental Management, Annals of Operations Research, Enterprise Information Systems, Finance Research Letters, and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal. Select publications include 'Transitioning the energy landscape: AI's role in shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy' (Energy Economics, 2025), 'Teachers’ Technological Innovation Intention and Performance in the E-Learning Context' (Journal of Organizational and End User Computing, 2025), 'The rising role of artificial intelligence in renewable energy development in China' (Energy Economics, 2024), 'Competition under demand uncertainty: The roles of technology and capacity strategy' (European Journal of Operational Research, 2024), 'The choice of green manufacturing modes under carbon tax and carbon quota' (Journal of Cleaner Production, 2023), and 'Financial technology stocks, green financial assets, and energy markets: A quantile causality and dependence analysis' (Energy Economics, 2023). His scholarly impact is evidenced by rankings in Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% of Scientists for 2024 and 2025. Awards include College Excellence Award for Research Supervision (2025), School Excellence Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning Undergraduate (2025), Young Researcher Award from International Engineering and Technology Institute (2022), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) since 2021. Shao contributes to academia as Editorial Review Board Member for Journal of International Management and Management and Organization Review, Associate Editor for Nature: Humanities & Social Science Communication, Economic Analysis and Policy, and Journal of Organizational and End User Computing, Vice President of IETI Board of Directors, President of IRIEM Oceania Division, Fellow of the Commercial Education Society of Australia, SSP Fellow of Sungkyunkwan University (2026), and Visiting Professor at Hanyang University, Korea.
