Dr David Young is Senior Lecturer in Rural Medicine in the School of Rural Medicine at the University of New England in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. He qualified with an MBBS from the University of New South Wales and is a Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM). An experienced general practitioner, Dr Young has worked the majority of his clinical time in rural and remote settings. He also had a five-year period of urban general practice in Brisbane. With over 40 years as a rural GP, he is now retired from clinical practice and focuses on teaching. Previously, he co-owned the West Armidale Medical Centre and served as a GP supervisor, mentoring medical students in his practice.
Dr Young commenced Problem Based Learning (PBL) teaching at the University of New England in 2017 for Year One and Year Two medical students. He is a Case Based Learning (CBL) tutor for Year Three students and a clinical skills tutor for Year One students. He teaches online sessions to GPs within the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) continuing professional education framework. Dr Young is a member of the University of New England's Human Research Ethics Committee under Category C, providing knowledge of and current experience in the professional care, counselling or treatment of people.
