Debbie L. Hahs-Vaughn is a professor of Methodology, Measurement, and Analysis in the College of Community Innovation and Education at the University of Central Florida, where she has been employed since 2003. She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Research from the University of Alabama, an MBA with a marketing emphasis from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), and a BFA in Graphic Design from the same institution. As Program Coordinator for the Methodology, Measurement, and Analysis program since 2021, she teaches graduate-level courses including Statistics for Educational Data, Quantitative Foundations of Educational Research, and Multilevel Data Analysis. Her research focuses on methodological issues associated with applying quantitative statistical methods to complex sample data, program evaluation including quality in research reporting, postsecondary issues, and school reform, as well as the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning with emphasis on practitioner use of research in postsecondary environments. She has experience with complex datasets such as the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study Kindergarten Class, Schools and Staffing Survey, Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study, and National Survey of Children’s Health. Hahs-Vaughn is the author of six statistics textbooks, including Introduction to Statistical Concepts (2020) and Applied Multivariate Statistical Concepts (2016), a book chapter on Propensity Score Analysis, and approximately 60 articles in professional outlets. She is principal investigator on funded projects, including Enhancing Quality in Teacher Preparation in Mathematics Within Urban Partnerships (U.S. Department of Education, 2019-2023, $3,388,951).
Hahs-Vaughn has received major awards including Research Incentive Awards (University of Central Florida, 2009, 2013, 2018), Teaching Incentive Program Awards (2009, 2013, 2018), College of Education Excellence in Graduate Teaching Awards (2007, 2017), Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Awards (2011, 2016), College of Education Distinguished Researcher Awards (2009, 2014), and the Florida Educational Research Association Educator of the Year Award (2013). She is a certified Group Design Reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences What Works Clearinghouse. Her editorial contributions include serving as Executive Editor (2009-2013) and current Consulting Editor for the Measurement, Statistics, and Research Design section of the Journal of Experimental Education, and editorial board member for Methods in Psychology (2019-present). She has held leadership roles such as Past Chair and Program Chair for the American Educational Research Association’s Advanced Studies of National Databases Special Interest Group, Secretary/Treasurer for multiple AERA SIGs, and Treasurer for the Florida Educational Research Association. Additionally, she serves as Secretary for the founding board of the Galileo School for Gifted Learning and on the Advisory Board for the Tangelo Park Community.
