Mrs Debbie Procter is a Nursing Lecturer in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University and is currently undertaking a PhD at Edith Cowan University. Her research focuses on the experiences of student nurses during Primary Health Care placements, with a strong interest in strategies to enhance the primary health care nursing workforce through dynamic placements and curriculum development. Debbie brings a wealth of practical experience in nursing, having worked across Acute Surgery, Primary Health Care, Global Health, Operating Theatres, Research, and Education. Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Health Science (BHlthSc) from Charles Sturt University, Graduate Certificate in Education (GradCertEd) from Charles Sturt University, Graduate Diploma in International Health (GradDipIntHlth) from Monash University, and Master of Education (Educational Research) (MEd) from Charles Sturt University. She also holds postgraduate qualifications in International Health, Tropical Nursing, and Immunisations.
Procter's contributions to nursing education are evidenced in her peer-reviewed publications. Key works include 'Nursing students' evaluation of Primary Health Care clinical placements - A cross-sectional study' (2026), 'Understanding perceptions, attitudes and experiences of nursing students regarding primary health care clinical placements: A cross-sectional study' (2025, with Kylie McCullough and Debbie Massey), 'How MASK-ED™ (KRS Simulation) Prepares Nursing Students for Clinical Placements: A Cross-sectional Study' (2023, with James Deehan, Paul Parker, Elizabeth Emmanuel, and Jennene Greenhill), and a co-authored paper 'Measuring the impact of The Australian National Placement Evaluation Centre to enhance nursing and midwifery student clinical placements: A multimodal evaluation' (2025, with C. Ryan and others).
