Deborah Wingard, PhD, is Professor of Public Health and Professor of Epidemiology in the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at the University of California, San Diego. She serves as Faculty Director for Program Evaluation in the Health Sciences Office of Faculty Affairs, overseeing the quantitative data collection and analysis of all office programs and climate surveys. Wingard is the co-founding director of the UC San Diego National Center of Leadership in Academic Medicine (NCLAM) program, supporting faculty development and leadership in academic medicine. Her career at UCSD includes prior affiliation with the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.
Her research interests include faculty development, equity and diversity in academic medicine, mentoring, institutional climate, and health outcomes such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, vitamin D and cancer, PTSD, and complementary therapies. She investigates the interaction of behaviors and biology on health, particularly heart disease and diabetes, utilizing cohort studies like the Rancho Bernardo Study and military cohorts.
