Dr Diana Fieldwick is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Women's Health, at the University of Otago's Dunedin School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Health Sciences Division. She holds the qualifications BMedSci(Hons), MBChB, and PGDipOMG. Fieldwick completed her Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours at the University of Otago in 2013, with a thesis titled 'Body Weight Regulation During Pregnancy in the mouse'. From 2010 to 2011, she served as a BMedSci(Hons) student at the University's Centre for NeuroEndocrinology in Dunedin. Her career includes clinical roles in obstetrics and gynaecology at institutions such as Tauranga Hospital, Wellington Hospital, and Capital & Coast District Health Board.
Fieldwick has produced several peer-reviewed publications centered on weight management in reproductive health contexts. In 2017, she co-authored 'General practitioners and preconception weight management in New Zealand' in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with Alesha Smith and Helen Paterson. This work examined general practitioners' approaches to weight counselling prior to conception. In 2019, the same collaborators published 'General practitioners and gestational weight management' in the Journal of Primary Health Care, addressing GP practices during pregnancy. Additional contributions include 'Management of excess weight in pregnancy in Otago, New Zealand: a qualitative study with lead maternity carers' (2014), which explored midwives' knowledge and management of gestational weight gain; 'Suppression of leptin-induced hypothalamic JAK/STAT signalling and feeding response during pregnancy in the mouse' (2012); and 'Massive antepartum haemorrhage at insertion of Foley balloon catheter for induction of labour' (2021, BMJ Case Reports). These outputs reflect her expertise in maternal obesity, preconception care, and obstetric complications, drawn from affiliations with the Department of Women's and Children's Health at Otago.
