Dr Duc Huynh is a Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University’s School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in 2012, after which he worked clinically in Vietnam. In 2015, he completed a Master of Clinical Embryology at Monash University. He began his academic career at Monash as a teaching associate and trainer in the Education Program in Reproduction and Development (EPRD), Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Since 2018, Dr Huynh has been the Lecturer and Practical Coordinator for the Master of Clinical Embryology (MCE) program, managing practical laboratory training, short courses, and professional development workshops for the IVF industry. He serves as unit coordinator for MCE5112 (Practical: ART laboratory processes - Embryology/Andrology) and MCE5201 (Practical: ART laboratory processes - Advanced embryology), and lectures, assesses, and trains in units such as MCE5100 (Biology of reproduction), MCE5105 (Theory: ART laboratory processes - andrology), MCE5103 (Theory: ART laboratory processes - embryology), MCE5101 (Infertility treatment strategies), MCE5200 (ART Laboratory operations and management), MCE5212 (Genetic testing in ART), and MCE5205 (Research in ART - Designing and Applying).
In his teaching role, Dr Huynh introduced pre-class instructional videos, structured post-class feedback, and online formative assessments in 2018, and designed the first Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE) for embryology and andrology in the MCE program in 2022. He rewrote the MCE training and procedures manual and developed innovative techniques including “DH’s 5 o” for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and “DH’s trophectoderm biopsy method & DH’s magic stick” for trophectoderm biopsy. Since 2020, he has worked as a Senior Clinical Embryologist and Embryo Biopsy Specialist at City Fertility Centre clinics in Melbourne, Notting Hill, and Bundoora, Victoria, Australia. Dr Huynh organises workshops such as Embryo Biopsy Hands-on Workshops and Vitrification Workshops, and collaborates internationally with IVF clinics in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and India, delivering training for organisations like CooperSurgical, ESCO Medical, Nexpring Health, and Vitrolife. In 2026, along with colleagues Dr Penny Chen and Dr Mulyoto Pangestu, he received the Sub-Faculty of Clinical and Molecular Medicine Citation for Outstanding Contribution (team) Award for evidence-based, student-centred teaching. His academic interests focus on clinical embryology and assisted reproductive technologies (ART), including embryo culture, ICSI, vitrification, embryo biopsy, time-lapse imaging, IVF, and in vitro maturation (IVM).
