Dr. Eden Zhang serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Banking and Finance within Monash Business School at Monash University, based at the Caulfield campus. She joined Monash in July 2017 as a Lecturer and has progressed to Senior Lecturer. Zhang completed her PhD at Erasmus University Rotterdam's Rotterdam School of Management. Her primary research interests lie in corporate finance, political economy of finance, mergers and acquisitions, capital structure, credit risk, corporate governance, and empirical banking. These foci explore the dynamics between financial decisions, political influences, and economic outcomes.
Zhang's research output includes publications in leading finance journals. Key works are 'The Politics of the Paycheck Protection Program' (2025, Review of Corporate Finance Studies, 14(4): 1083-1122, with D. Igan, T. Lambert, P. Mishra), analyzing political aspects of U.S. economic relief; 'Banks, Political Capital, and Growth' (2023, Review of Corporate Finance Studies, 12(3): 613-655, with T. Lambert, W. Wagner), investigating banks' political connections and growth; 'Why are Distressed Firms Acquisitive?' (2022, Journal of Corporate Finance, 72: 102126); 'Winning Connections? Special Interests and the Sale of Failed Banks' (2022, Journal of Banking and Finance, 140: 106496, with D. Igan, T. Lambert, W. Wagner); and 'Antitrust Merger Review Costs and Acquirer Lobbying' (2018, Journal of Corporate Finance, 51: 72-97, with J.P. Fidrmuc, P. Roosenboom). She received the CFA Institute Asia-Pacific Research Exchange Best Paper Award on 27 June 2018. Zhang contributes to education as Chief Examiner for units including BFF5250 Applied Corporate Finance and serves as a discussant at events like the Monash Winter Finance Conference.
