Elena Calvert serves as the Recruitment Manager in the Human Resources Division at the University of Otago. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tomsk State University and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago, complemented by her Certified Member of HRINZ (CMHRINZ) designation. Her professional journey commenced following her graduation from the University of Otago, where she worked as an HR and operations consultant at Deloitte Dunedin, leading projects in HR and economic strategy for diverse clients. Subsequently, she dedicated ten years to senior HR roles at Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin within the retail sector. Joining the University of Otago in 2012 as Recruitment Manager, she oversees recruitment processes across the institution, contributing to organizational development in the public sector.
Actively engaged in the HR profession, Elena Calvert holds the position of National President and Elected Director at HRNZ (Human Resources New Zealand), having previously served as National Vice President. A member for over 15 years, she has undertaken numerous volunteer roles at both branch and national levels, including on the Regional Network committee, with a focus on member value, regional engagement, and student involvement. At the University of Otago, she has facilitated sessions for the Staff Women's Caucus, supported initiatives like Sneaker Friday for Diabetes awareness, and in April 2025, presented the HR Student of the Year award to Poppy Fogarty as HRNZ National Vice President. Additionally, she has aided regional business groups such as the Chamber of Commerce and Business South as a Training Facilitator and in board governance matters, including mergers and CEO selections. Her leadership promotes HR standards, people development, and inclusive workplaces across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.
