Elisa Grant-Vallone is a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychological Science at California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM), where she joined the faculty in 1998 upon earning her Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University. Her research in organizational psychology examines work and family issues, work environments, employee health and well-being, women's decision-making regarding work and family lives, benefits derived from multiple roles, and methods for managing conflict and stress. Key publications include "Longitudinal Examination of Mentoring Relationships on Organizational Commitment and Citizenship Behavior" (2000), "Consequences of Work–Family Conflict on Employee Well-Being over Time" (2001), "Understanding Self-Report Bias in Organizational Behavior Research" (2002), "An Analysis of the Effects of Self-Esteem, Social Support, and Participation in Student Support Services on Students' Adjustment and Commitment to College" (2003), "Opting In Between: Strategies Used by Professional Women With Children to Balance Work and Family" (2011), and the chapter "High-Tech, High-Touch Tension: Trends in Human Resource Management" (2015). She has also published on mid-career faculty engagement in the Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice.
Dr. Grant-Vallone has advanced her career through significant administrative and service roles at CSUSM, serving as Department Chair of Psychological Science, Director of the Faculty Center, and Director of the North County Higher Education Alliance. She participated in the Graduation Initiative Steering Committee and Campus Climate Working Group. Currently, she is Associate Dean of Operations and Budget for the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences (CHABSS). In these capacities, she has facilitated faculty learning communities, mentored new faculty, led mid-career faculty learning communities, developed the Teaching EXPO initiative, and incorporated service learning into her courses to build community and connections. For her contributions, she received the CSUSM President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Service Leadership in 2017-2018.
