Professor Eliza Wu is Associate Dean (Research Education) and Professor of Finance and Banking at the University of Sydney Business School. She holds a PhD in Finance and a joint Honours degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Sydney. Previously serving as Head of the Discipline of Finance, Professor Wu specializes in corporate finance, banking, financial stability, systemic risk, and international finance. Her research examines dynamic behaviors in international financial markets, funding liquidity's impact on bank risk-taking, and systemic vulnerabilities in banking systems. She possesses broad experience in teaching, research, and consulting in international finance and bank financial management.
Professor Wu's scholarly output includes highly cited publications in leading finance journals. Prominent works are 'Dynamic stock market integration driven by the European Monetary Union: An empirical analysis' (Journal of Banking & Finance, 2005, co-authored with S.J. Kim and F. Moshirian), analyzing EMU effects on European stock markets; 'Funding liquidity and bank risk taking,' investigating liquidity-risk dynamics in banks; 'COVID-19 Pandemic and Global Corporate CDS Spreads' (2022, with I. Hasan et al.), assessing pandemic influences on credit derivatives; and 'Borrower Technology Similarity and Bank Loan Contracting' (2023, with M. Gao et al.). Her publications have accumulated over 3,000 citations per ResearchGate. As a founding co-chair of the Sydney Banking and Financial Stability Conference with Professor Suk-Joong Kim, she has advanced global discussions on banking stability.
