Dr Emma Campbell is a Lecturer in Photography at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. She holds a BA (Hons) in Documentary Photography from the University of Wales College, Newport (2001), an MFA in Photography from Ulster University (2012), and a practice-based PhD from Ulster University focused on socially engaged photography as an activist tool for abortion rights.
Dr Campbell is a member of the Array Collective, which won the Turner Prize in 2021, and has exhibited internationally both as part of the collective and in solo shows. She serves as co-convenor of Alliance for Choice, the largest abortion rights organisation in Northern Ireland, and holds positions including Trustee for the Abortion Support Network and Board Director for Outburst Queer Arts Festival. Her research integrates creative methodologies with law and social policy, particularly in the areas of reproductive justice and intersectional feminism. She is a Research Associate on the Shared Island Reproductive Citizenship project. Notable recognitions include the Campaign of the Year Award in 2018 for her work with Alliance for Choice. Dr Campbell contributes to public discourse through invited talks, exhibitions, and collaborative projects addressing art, activism, and social change.
