Dr Enjarn Lin is a lecturer in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Monash University, where he serves as unit coordinator for the Masters of Perioperative Medicine course, specifically POM5101 on perioperative medicine and cardiorespiratory disease. He graduated from Monash University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) with Honours and a Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci) with Honours. Lin completed his internship and residency at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, followed by specialist anaesthesia training at the Alfred Hospital and Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom, earning his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2007. Since 2007, he has worked as a staff anaesthetist and senior specialist at the Alfred Hospital, focusing on cardiothoracic anaesthesia, including for patients undergoing heart or lung transplantation. He holds credentials in transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography (USA), with certifications in PTEeXAM and ASCeXAM.
Lin's academic and research interests center on perioperative medicine, intraoperative echocardiography, myocardial protection, and management of complications in cardiac and thoracic surgery. He teaches evidence-based perioperative medicine to postgraduate doctors and contributes to clinical research. Key publications include "Safety, feasibility, and effect of remote ischemic conditioning in patients undergoing lung transplantation" (2014, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation), "Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography: a critical appraisal of its current role in the assessment of diastolic dysfunction" (2015, Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia), "Volatile anaesthetic myocardial protection: a review of the current literature" (2010, HSR Proceedings in Intensive Care & Cardiovascular Anesthesia), "Routine protamine administration for bleeding in transcatheter aortic valve replacement" (2024, JAMA Cardiology), "Poor agreement between preoperative transthoracic echocardiography and intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography for left ventricular ejection fraction" (2024), and "Substantial increases occur in serum activins and follistatin during lung transplantation" (2016, PLOS ONE). Lin also provides anaesthetic services in private practice at Cabrini, Epworth Waverley, and St Vincent’s Private Hospitals in Melbourne.
