Eric Vanderduys is a Research Scientist in Field Ecology at CSIRO. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland, awarded in 1994. Vanderduys has extensive experience as a field naturalist, ecologist and fauna surveyor across Queensland, with a career spanning more than two decades. Prior to joining CSIRO, he served as Projects Officer at the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency from 2004 to 2006. At CSIRO, his work focuses on terrestrial vertebrate fauna, including studies of flying-foxes, koalas, snakes and frogs, as well as the impacts of land management practices such as grazing, clearing, weeds, fire and feral species on biodiversity.
Vanderduys is the author of the Field Guide to the Frogs of Queensland, published in 2012, which provides identification details, distribution maps and conservation information for 132 frog species. He maintains the Black-throated Finch database for the Black-throated Finch Recovery Team and has contributed to long-term monitoring programs, including research on grey-headed flying-fox populations published in 2024. His research has resulted in numerous publications with over 1,000 citations.
