Dr. Eva Patak serves as a Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. Qualified with BMedSc and MD degrees, she is an education-focused academic in the Department of Pharmacology at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, contributing significantly to the Monash Medicine Course. Patak has been actively involved in undergraduate teaching, delivering units such as Principles of Medicine 1 (MED1200) in the Malaysia campus and Modern Drug Development (PHA3042) at Clayton campus. She has co-convened PHA3042 with colleagues including Dr. Barbara Kemp-Harper and Dr. Mark Del Borgo, and her teaching teams have been recognized for excellence, including in the 2018 capping off education successes for pharmacology education innovations.
Patak's research output includes 9 items, with 8 articles and 1 abstract produced between 1998 and 2006, primarily during her affiliations with the Department of Pharmacology at Monash University and the Department of Anaesthetics at Royal Women's Hospital. Her work examines tachykinins and tachykinin receptors in the context of uterine and genitourinary smooth muscle function. Key publications are 'Functional characterization of tachykinin NK1 receptors in the mouse urinary bladder' (2002); 'Tachykinins and tachykinin receptors in human uterus' (2003, British Journal of Pharmacology); 'Tachykinins and tachykinin receptors: a growing family' (2004, Life Sciences); 'Mammalian tachykinins and uterine smooth muscle: the challenge escalates' (2004, European Journal of Pharmacology); 'Functional and molecular characterization of tachykinins and tachykinin receptors in the mouse uterus' (2005, Biology of Reproduction); and 'Regulation of the stimulant actions of neurokinin A and human hemokinin-1 on the human uterus: a comparison with histamine' (2006, Biology of Reproduction). These contributions have garnered citations, notably 425 for the 2004 Life Sciences review. Patak has also contributed to educational resources like e-Pharmacology for medical students and team efforts in assessment feedback for learning in pharmacology.
